Luxury Safari Lodges and Camps in Rwanda

Bisate lodge has dramatic views of the peaks of the volcanoes, Bisoke and Karisimbi, rearing up through the Afro-alpine forests of nearby Volcanoes National Park. Six luxurious en-suite Forest Villas maximize comfort and views while retaining environmental principles and reflecting the culture of rural Rwanda. One & Only Nyungwe House is set amongst the rich tea plantations of Gisakura, In Southwest Rwanda, just south of Lake Kivu on the Burundi border. The property is set on the edge of the iconic Nyungwe National Park, which covers approximately 1020 square kilometers of rain forest, bamboo, and swamps. The accommodations at this lodge provide a sense of tranquility with a fireplace and picturesque private deck. All rooms include breakfast, lunch, and dinner while featuring tea and coffee facilities and an en-suite bathroom with an indoor shower, wilderness-view shower, and stand-alone bath.

The One & Only Spa provides relaxing treatments, while the One & Only Gym allows guests space and equipment for a refreshing workout. Additionally, guests can relax in the infinity pool while having a snack and drink and enjoy a meal by the trees with a picnic or at an elegant restaurant.

There are 22 suites spread across six villas on the property. Each room has an open fireplace, a private terrace, a flat screen TV and a spacious bathroom, and given that most safari lodges in Rwanda don’t have TVs or in-room Wi-Fi, it feels like a major upgrade.

Magashi camp Situated in the productive and phenomenally diverse north-eastern corner of Akagera National Park, overlooking scenic Lake Rwanyakazinga. Akagera comprises some of the most scenic savannah in East Africa – open plains, woodlands, lakes, swamp, and grassy low mountains – and is home to one of Africa’s highest hippo densities, large crocodiles, as well as the rare sitatunga and almost 500 species of birds.

Teeming with plains game, Akagera also boasts a healthy population of lions which were introduced by African Parks in 2015 after a 20-year absence; black rhinos were reintroduced in 2017. Magashi – the only exclusive-use area in Akagera – also harbors a good density of leopards.

The Six spacious and airy tents offer uninterrupted views over the shimmering water, while Magashi’s main area comprises a luxurious lounge, dining and bar area, pool, and expansive viewing deck with a convivial fire pit and swimming pool. With its exceptional natural beauty, environmentally conscious luxury, and transformative, purpose-driven experiences, the lodge was designed in response to this remarkable location, and the eight contemporary suites as well as the private four-bedroom villa – Kataza House are linked by volcanic rock pathways to the central lodge.

The interiors emphasize local design and handcrafted details adorn the carefully planned spaces. Layered textures and colors enhance the reflective quality of this tranquil haven and an experiential enclave offers free-flowing indoor and outdoor areas. A convivial fire pit, interactive kitchen, bar-deli, and wine cellar complete the picture.

Wilderness Sabyinyo Lodge is spread over an area of 17 acres and offers just 9 cottages and suites to frill tourists. These rooms are scattered around the property and are accessible by way of a pleasant walk through the estate with sightings of some of the 178 species of bird’s native to the Albertine Rift forests of the Volcanoes national park.

Each of the cottages is made of stone with terracotta tiles for the roofs and is shielded from the others by sheer distance and greenery to accord perfect privacy. You can choose from one of the 6 cottages and 2 suites. The lodge also offers 1 family suite that comprises of two rooms that open onto a shared patio. Relax in the seating arrangements inside the room or on the verandah or open up the hammock for a leisurely nap. En-suite bathrooms include handmade toiletries, twin vanities, bathtub and a handmade shower stall.

Lake Kivu Serena Hotel, spend your lake-side holiday in one of the 66 rooms the Kivu Serena Hotel has including 37 standard rooms, 23 family rooms, and 6 Luxury Suites, all of which face the lake. Of the Standard and Family Rooms, you can request for the ones with king-sized beds or twin queen-sized beds while the Luxury Suites include a separate living cum working area. Physically challenged tourists can stay in the room designed for their comfort while families can request for interlinked rooms with cribs or cots.

It includes a seating area, flat-screen TV with satellite channels, tea and coffee making supplies, electronic safe for storing valuables and an attached balcony on the upper floors and patio on the lower floor where you can sit and revel in the beauty of Lake Kivu. En-suite bathrooms come with a hairdryer and bathtub, though; the rooms with the luxury suites also include a shower area.
