Visit Rwanda’s Top National Parks

Geographically located in the Eastern part of the African Continent Rwanda is one of the prominent and dramatic destinations to visit on your lifetime African Safari Vacation either for Wildlife, Culture or adventure tours basing on its acquisition of different Wildlife Primates, Cultural heritage sites, physical features and several adventure sites. Dreaming of a lifetime gorilla safari Vacation in Africa you cannot get your minds settled until you land in Rwanda where you obtain a clear observation of its Sceneries by use of your God given eyes.

Rwanda by location already stated it is located in the Eastern part of the African Continent bordering Uganda in the North, Democratic Republic of Congo to the West, Tanzania to the East and Burundi to the North, Rwanda “The Land of a thousand hills” has its top three major National Parks which have put it on board as far as tourism in Africa and these parks are majoring in providing home to Rwanda’s Wildlife Primates and Species which include Chimpanzees, Mountain Gorillas, Golden Monkeys, Black & White Colobus Monkeys, Blue Monkeys, Red tailed Monkeys, Vervets, African Big Fives (Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Buffaloes and Rhinoceros), Antelopes, Baboons, Bush babies, Zebras, Giraffe, Elands, Reptiles like Python, Black Cobra, Gabon Vipers, insects like Butterflies, tsetse flies, different bird species which are sighted mostly in Swampy areas, below are Rwanda’s major destinations to go.

Volcanoes National Park. Among the three this is Rwanda’s best where most visitors would not wish to leave before at least paying a visit to its natural touristic features, Volcanoes National Park is situated far in the Northern corner of Rwanda characterized with tropical rain forest, Savannah grassland, bamboo forests and some parts covered with Swamps. This park was mainly established to provide home to part of the remaining World’s Gorilla population plus the Golden Monkeys which are mostly in parts covered with bamboo forests since they mostly like feeding on young bamboo shoot and stem.

Not only Mountain Gorillas and Golden Monkeys but also this park has other several tourism sites which include Dian Fossey grave yard, volcanic mountains like mountain Karisimbi, Mountain Bisoke, Nyamuragira, IbyI’wacu Cultural Village where the Batwa people who migrated from Democratic Republic of Congo leave, Batwa Caves and more. Some of the major activities done in Volcanoes National Park include: –

Gorilla Trekking. This involves heading into the Jungle following the permanently established routes in search of these apes very excited to see them playing, physical outlook, feeding, laughing and taking photos of them for reference, during this trekking journey you are assigned a park ranger to lead you through the jungle as for them are well informed of which trail to take. It is advised that you come with strong hiking shoes as some trails tend to be slippery characterized with mud, thorns, hooks and more.

A group of eight people is allowed to go for each gorilla family and after discovering location of these apes you are allowed to stay in their presence for only one hour while sharing with them and vacate the place such that room is created for them to continue with their day to day work.

Golden Monkey tracking. This also involves heading into the Jungle in search of these primates but for them are mostly found in areas covered with bamboo forests since young bamboo shoot and stem is their best dish, these Golden Monkeys are not like Gorillas in that for them feed both on ground and up in the tree branches which makes them to be more tricky reaching to an extent of sometimes hiding away if they discover presence of human beings.

Nyungwe Forest National Park. This is located very deep in the Western wing of Rwanda; it is an eco – system destination characterized with tropical rain forest, Savannah grasslands, some parts covered with Swamps consisting of 240 tree species, 140 colorful orchids, and 1050 plant types. It is home to over 13 primate species including the habituated Chimpanzees, number of mammals and large variety of other species.

While in Rwanda this is the only destination which you can go for Chimpanzee tracking and this involves setting off in a group heading into the Jungle in search of these primates such that you can experience their ways of living, behaviors like playing, laughing, feeding style and more but it’s always advised to keep your voice at low tone as these primates tend to tricky, sometimes when they discover presence of human beings in their location they tend to hide away suspecting you to be enemies.

Other activity done in Nyungwe Forest National Park is the Canopy walk which involves moving on a bridge made out of ropes adjoined to the tall trees at high levels from the ground, this walk takes about 2 hours from the starting point up to the end point but has you are on the Walk different crossing bird species are sighted, it is advised that as you are going for this walk bring yourself a bottle of water, hiking shoes, waterproof jackets to protect you from water in case of rainfall, huts and insect repellents to protect you from sunshine and biting insects like Butter flies, Mosquitoes and more.

Akagera National Park. Doing a lifetime Safari vacation in Rwanda is not all done until you visit its Wildlife which even include the African Big Fives, this park is located far in the Eastern wing of Rwanda, it was established in 1934 to protect animals and vegetation in the three habitats which include Savannah, Mountain and Swamps. When in Rwanda this Park is majorly known for the African Big fives and big game which include African Elephant, Buffalo, Zebra, Giraffe, antelopes, Rhinoceros (Black & White) plus other aquatic species which include Hippopotamus and Nile Crocodiles which are found in Akagera’s Lakes. Although this park is mostly known for the African Big fives it’s also a paradise for bird watching with a variety of different bird species which include Savannah birds, aquatic birds and raptors.

The major activity done in Akagera National Park is a game drive around the Park which issues you opportunities of sighting these well stocked Wildlife Primates and Species in the Park.
